The National Holocaust Centre and Museum
The National Holocaust Centre and Museum remains the only
centre dedicated to Holocaust remembrance and education in the UK. It plays an
important role as a memorial, museum and a place of testimony and learning.
Built to honour those who died and to give a voice to those
who survived and to educate future generations, the centre stands as a
permanent record of the very worst and the very best in humankind.
The centre emphasises how current and future generations
must carefully examine and learn from the Holocaust. The centre promotes
respect for human rights, equal opportunities and good citizenship.
In 2015 we welcomed 20,000 young people to the centre from
schools across the UK. They were able to speak to a holocaust survivor and
listen and ask questions about their experiences first hand.
Arek Hersh, MBE
‘I feel it is vital for me to talk. I know I am teaching a
lot of young people not to hate and to do all the right things. I believe my
story impacts on them and they are learning a great deal from me’.
Arek was taken to his first concentration camp when he was
only eleven years old. Arek moved around several camps before being taken to
Auschwitz in Poland. Arek regularly
shares his experiences with young people at the centre. Please support The
National Holocaust Centre and Museum so survivors’ memories can live on.
