More about the programme:
For Catholics this is a ‘Year of Mercy’ and Pope Francis has underlined his commitment to the global celebration with the recent publication of a book. But just what is mercy?
Roy Jenkins discusses the complex relationship between mercy, forgiveness and justice with a panel of guests. Are Christians always obliged to forgive, however heinous the offence against them? And is judicial mercy just a ‘rogue’s charter’?
Roy’s guests include the Most Rev George Stack, Archbishop of Cardiff; Revd Dr Craig Gardiner, Professor Anthony Bash of Durham University, and Marian Partington, whose sister was one of the victims of Fred West, and who has written about her struggle to forgive her sister’s murder.
