Prayer for the Day, Richard Hill - Prayer for St Patrick's Day

Good Morning.Kidnapped and trafficked to Ireland as a young man, he was subsequently sold into slavery. Legend tells us he spent time tending sheep on a County Antrim Hillside before making good his escape from Ireland and returning home. That might well have been the end of his dealings with Ireland but St. Patrick鈥檚 story didn鈥檛 stop with his bid for freedom.
He later returned bringing the message of Christianity, changing the whole direction of the Island by converting the High King and beginning a Christian Church that spread throughout the island
It is worth remembering today that Ireland鈥檚 most celebrated Irishman isn't even Irish.聽He's been identified as Welsh, Scottish, or from the North of England. Historians do seem to agree that the former slave returned to bring a new message of hope to those who had once persecuted him. St Patrick the religious migrant who has been claimed as one of Ireland's own. The man in whose name beer is turned green today, parades are held, prayers said was an outsider who became an insider. A man who changed a nation.
St Patrick's Breastplate is a long and beautiful Gaelic prayer which in translation leads us into prayer this morning,Christ with me,Christ before me,Christ behind me,Christ in me,Christ beneath me,Christ above me,Christ on my right,Christ on my left,Christ when I lie down,Christ when I sit down,Christ when I arise,Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,Christ in every eye that sees me,Christ in every ear that hears me.Amen
