Script

Good morning. Today a hero. Tomorrow a villain.

Tomorrow, Palm Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week. For many Christians across the world, it is a day commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. He was accompanied by the enthusiastic applause of the crowds gathering for the annual Passover celebration. They acclaim him the Son of David, the successor to the great King of Israel. They wave palm branches (the symbol of a victorious warrior), laying them on the ground in his path.

Within days though, the very same crowds are crying out for him to be crucified - or keep a distance from him as he stumbles along a different road to His crucifixion.
In such stories, the voice of truth is not necessarily what the crowd wish to hear. The uglier side of our humanity can come to the fore and in its wake, suffering and death. Yet in that crowd, we also find people whose hearts reach out to anyone they see in pain and distress - but their voice is drowned out by the noise around them.

God our Father, give us the grace always to search for the truth and the courage to raise our voice for those who are suffering or being persecuted. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen
