Script

Good morning.

It melts ice.
It breaks down walls.

It opens doors.

It builds bridges

It heals wounds.

All in all, it鈥檚 a pretty useful word, is the little word 鈥淪orry鈥.

There used to be an advert for the film 鈥淟ove Story鈥濃lastered on bill boards the length and breadth of the land declaring the utter nonsense that

鈥淟ove means never having to say you鈥檙e sorry鈥

What tosh! Love means having to say you鈥檙e sorry countless times! 听When, at last, someone gets off that big high horse鈥 my ego, my pride鈥 and says the magic word that breaks the silence, and makes things right again.

So to all those people I might have hurt just trying to get a cheap laugh at their expense鈥orry!听 That feels good! 听Clears the air, makes the peace.

And how hard was it? Not so hard really.

I tell couples at weddings about a guy who goes into the office on a Monday, and things haven鈥檛 been going too well at home鈥ver the week-end, His pal takes him aside and says,

鈥淐harlie, Charlie, there鈥檚 a little word I鈥檝e found very useful in my relationship, and it鈥檚 that little word 鈥渟orry鈥.听听 鈥淚 know,鈥 says the guy鈥︹漛ut, How can I get her to say it!?鈥

Well, maybe it鈥檚 our turn to say it.听 And watch the doors open; the bridges get built;

the silences be broken: the ice melt: the wounds heal.

Lord, teach us the power of sorry鈥how us when we should say it鈥o you and to the people who need to hear it from us. Then let the healing begin. Amen
