Producer's Note - Shakespeare: Youth & Age
Wise children and old fools - Shakespeare was fascinated by both.聽 He often wrote about the places where clock and human time intersect whether this took the form of a young girl鈥檚 desire in a play such as The Two Noble Kinsmen, or the intricate mechanism of The Sonnets or the unmoored pain of King Lear.聽 This edition of Words and Music examines this theme with readings by students from Birmingham University鈥檚 Shakespeare Institute and music that reflects the ways in which composers have explored similar territory in the 400 years since Shakespeare鈥檚 death.
