500 Words 2016: The Final

Live from Shakespeare's Globe in London, the 2016 final of 500 Words, with the six winning wordsmiths announced on air by celebrity narrators.

With a fanfare and a flourish, it's the 500 Words 2016 Final! An extravaganza of live music, superstar celebs and sensational story-telling, we celebrate the winning stories of the Chris Evans Breakfast Show's short-story writing competition.

The six winning wordsmiths will be announced on-air by celebrity narrators and serenaded by princes of pop - all live from the home of British story-telling, Shakespeare's Globe, in the year of the playwright's 400th anniversary.

It has been a record year for the 500 Words competition with a terrific total of 123,436 entries - that's over 60 million words! Each one was read by a fantastic team of volunteer teachers and librarians from around the UK, before being whittled down to the Top 50 finalists by the Reading Agency.

Our panel of judges - Charlie Higson, Francesca Simon, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Malorie Blackman and Honorary Judge, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall - then had the gruelling task of selecting 3 winners in each age category (ages five to nine and ages ten to thirteen) from this group of talented young writers.
