Theresa May has become the new leader of the Conservative Party, and will be the next prime minister on Wednesday.
The Home Secretary Theresa May is to be the next Prime Minister. She was confirmed as the Conservative Party leader this afternoon - and will move into Downing Street on Wednesday.
That came after Mrs May's rival in the Conservative leadership contest, Andrea Leadsom, withdrew earlier in the day - saying the UK needed "strong and stable government" and that Mrs May was "ideally placed" to implement Brexit.
