Campaign for National Parks

The Campaign for National Parks is an independent watchdog dedicated to the protection of all the National Parks in England and Wales. We were born in 1936 out of a commitment by a group of environmental enthusiasts who wanted Britain’s finest landscapes to be permanently protected for everyone to enjoy. Today we work to promote some of our most spectacular landscapes for the benefit of all.

Adam (right) lived 5 miles from the Lake District, but had never been anywhere near it before getting involved with the Campaign for National Parks. He felt he didn't fit in anywhere. The first time Adam went to the Lake District National Park he was hooked. Despite never thinking it was possible, he’s now at university and has plans for a youth project in the Lake District.

Protecting National Parks since 1936

Campaign for National Parks was instrumental in the creation of the Parks in England Wales and this year is our 80th birthday. From the vision of a small group of outdoor pioneers there are now have 13 spectacular National Parks in England and Wales. But as Bill Bryson says, they are not an inexhaustible resource – they need protecting.

Safeguarding the future

Safeguarding the future

National Parks are beautiful and we want them to remain loved for many years to come so that future generations can enjoy them. We’re working hard to make sure everyone can visit a Park, unique wildlife is protected and nothing can spoil the special qualities of National Parks.
