Details on the government’s plans to pay compensation to homeowners in fracking areas are expected later today, as the government launches a consultation on its Shale Wealth Fund. This weekend sees the release of The Shallows, a film about a female surfer stranded on a rock by a great white shark with a vendetta. Film critics have praised it but some marine biologists have said it plays directly into the 'Jaws effect' – stereotyping sharks as the enemies of humans.
