Farm trespassing, Flat racing, Dairy protests

Felicity Evans looks at flat racing, dairy protests, and how farmers can tackle farm trespassing.

Many farmers face the problem of trespassers on their land. But at this time of year, intruders can cause serious problems. The insurance firm NFU Mutual says arson claims shoot up in August and they say the problem is getting worse. Last years the number of claims was up by a fifth compared to 2014. Mark Saunders, who farms in Coulby Newam in Middlesborough, is facing this very problem. The Country Landowners Association tells us how farmers can tackle the problem.

As part of our Equine week we're looking at racing. The British Horseracing Authority estimates that racing is worth around 拢3.45bn to the economy and supports more than twenty thousand jobs. Across Britain there are around 14,000 race horses in training. Places like the Cotswolds are famous for National Hunt jump racing and for flat racing there are the gallops on the rolling downs of Oxfordshire & Berkshire. We meet a trainer in Blewbury near Wantage.

Farmers for Action are staging a protest to try and persuade Muller to increase the prices they pay to their producers. We hear from a farmer who's been attending the protests.
