Reports and results from around the country as the curtain rises on the first weekend of a much-anticipated SPFL season. The summer has seen a flurry of new arrivals, many of them high-profile, and the expectation is that a significant and exciting challenge for the Premiership title will now unfold.

Holders Celtic, now led by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, have added the likes of Kolo Toure and Moussa Dembele to their squad as they look to retain their title. However, Rangers are back in the top flight and manager Mark Warburton has made some key signings, including Joey Barton and Nico Kranjcar, as they stake their own claim on the trophy.

Meanwhile, both Aberdeen and Hearts will be hoping to build on their performances from last season and push the Glasgow clubs to the wire. Elsewhere, St Johnstone, Motherwell and Ross County will be aiming to repeat their top six achievements of last season, but there will be intense competition from the remaining clubs in a tightly contested campaign.
