Music 'til Midnight - the best in easy listening sounds and timeless standards performed by the greatest artists from the past 60 years. Including singers Dusty Springfield, Randy Newman, Frank Sinatra and Dr John plus pianist James Booker. This week's featured album is a forgotten gem from 1976, the musical meeting of Ray Charles and Cleo Laine for Porgy and Bess, an extensive collection of George and Ira Gershwin's songs written for their opera in 1934. Masterminded by producer and impresario Norman Granz this project found both artists at the height of their considerable vocal powers as heard in a number of the Gershwins' biggest hits including Summertime, It Ain't Necessarily So and I Got Plenty of Nuttin', all of these arranged and orchestrated by the album's musical director Frank de Vol.
