Paddy O'Connell presents highlights from the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. Veterans and service men and women engaged in current military operations join with the audience at the Royal Albert Hall to give thanks and pay tribute to all who risk their lives in the service of their country. The Festival features contributions from Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, Laura Mvula, Birdy and Alexander Armstrong performing with the Royal Air Force Squadronaires, and the Band of HM Royal Marines. This year the Festival marks the centenaries of the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland, the 25th anniversary of the Gulf War and the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Supermarine Spitfire. The conclusion of the Festival features the service of Remembrance during which thousands of poppies are dropped from the roof of the hall, representing the lives lost in the two great World Wars, and subsequent conflicts.
