My Generation - 1989

Shaun Keaveny plays rave, electronica and underground indie as part of 大象传媒 Music's My Generation - 1989, plus he is joined by Anneka Rice, who talks about TV's Challenge Anneka.

Following on from the success of its 1979 day to celebrate all things 70s, 大象传媒 Radio 6 Music today explores the alternative music of the 80s. The station will look at rave culture, and the electronica of the decade and find out how new technology created new opportunities for musicians as we take all the programmes back to 1989. We imagine what 6 Music would have sounded like had it existed on the same date in back in 1989 with a kicking playlist of rave, electronic, underground indie and maybe, just maybe some 80's pop!

Today we pulled on our culottes, perfected our perms (Shaun's was particularly good) and travelled back to 1989. Here we heard interviews with a brand new band called 'The Stone Roses', spoke to big name Anneka Rice, presenter of the show 'Challenge Anneka' and talked about this dangerous youth explosion known as 'Acid House'. Not only this but we heard hits of the day from Nirvana, De La Soul and Rebel MC & Double Trouble.
