Hugh Scully in Plymouth

4 Extra Debut. Hugh Scully visits Plymouth and reflects on the part that Drake, Napoleon and Hitler played in the city's history. From December 1991.

Hugh Scully returns to Plymouth - the Devon city where he began his career as a 大象传媒 TV presenter - to reflect on the roles Francis Drake, Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler played in the city's fascinating history.

Down Your Way was one of the 大象传媒's longest-running radio series - starting on the 大象传媒 Home Service in 1946 and ending its run on 大象传媒 Radio 4 in 1992. Using a variety of hosts, including Richard Dimbleby and Brian Johnston, the programme toured villages, towns and cities across the UK. At the height of its success in the 1950s, the series was attracting 10 million listeners a week.

Hugh Scully (1943-2015) was best known for presenting the 大象传媒's Antiques Roadshow from 1981 to 2000. But he originally started in radio, before moving to TV for 大象传媒 South West's news programme Spotlight in 1965, which earned him his big break on 大象传媒1's popular teatime news show Nationwide.
