Episode 2 of 2

Documentary following the workers at the last deep coal mine in Britain. The machines are switched off for the last time, and emotions are running high as the workers say goodbye.

Documentary following the workers at Kellingley Colliery in North Yorkshire, the last deep coal mine in Britain, as it prepares to close.

It is the final week before the closure of the mine, when every miner at Kellingley will lose their job. We follow the story of Sheldon, Jonesy, Kev and Jack through the last few days of cutting, as the last piece of coal is cut and the machines are switched off for the very last time.

Above ground, emotions run high as they say goodbye not only to each other but also to a way of life which has supported them for decades. We follow what happens to them as they start looking for new work. Some adapt easily to their new life above ground, but for others it is a struggle to readjust and to find new employment. Will they secure themselves a future beyond the pit?
