A Late Junction Special with Shabaka Hutchings

Saxophone virtuoso Shabaka Hutchings is the guest presenter. Including South African gumboot dances, Sun Ra's take on Christmas and a spiritual jazz folk number by Eddie Gale.

A former 大象传媒 Radio 3 New Generation Artist, saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings is one of the most versatile and innovative musicians on the UK jazz scene. Whether performing with his groups The Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka and the Ancestors, or as a collaborator alongside jazz luminaries, Shabaka has had a phenomenal year.

For this special edition of Late Junction he reaches to the furthest corners of his record collection with traditional gumboot dances from the mines of South Africa, a rare Sun Ra 45 with his take on Christmas, a poetic collaboration between Saul Williams and musicians from the Basel Sinfonieorchester and a collision between spiritual jazz and folk from American trumpeter Eddie Gale.

Produced by Alannah Chance for Reduced Listening.
