After three and a half years in the planning, endless meetings and no fewer than 25 fundraisers, the Royal National Mod, Scotland's premier Gaelic festival of language, arts and culture, was back in Stornoway in October 2016. But with an estimated 8000 attending, how does an event of this scale all come together?
Mod Week 2016 takes a look behind the scenes, as we meet some of those who help make the mod happen on the ground, and follow the journeys of some of those competing. The Mod team is a unigue collaborative effort of staff and volunteers alike, and we meet them as they work tirelessly behind the scenes throughout the week.
The local committee are key and have been fundraising for three years, raising up to 拢30,500, and the week itself sees over 100 stewards in action. We also follow the fortunes of Kenneth Macleod, a Lewisman now living in London as he takes part in the premier adult singing event for learners - the silver pendant, and the Barra Gaelic choir, taking part in only their second mod. There's also a surprise when Prince Charles pays a visit on the busiest day of the Mod.
