Breaking Free - the minds that changed music. Penny Gore presents a week of Afternoon on 3 comprising EBU and 大象传媒 performing groups as part of Radio 3's celebration of the Second Viennese School. Today's programme includes three pieces written in 1909: Schoenberg's Buch der hangenden Garten, Berg's Piano Sonata no.1 and Webern's 6 Orchestral Pieces Op.6. Plus highlights from a concert performed by the 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra with two composers who were a great influence on Schoenberg, Mozart and Mahler.

The World of the Second Viennese School in 5 Objects
Tom McKinney tracks down three asteroids that mark the achievements of the Second Viennese School, visiting the Institut fur Astronomie at the University of Vienna, and explores the idea of a new musical universe that was so central to Schoenberg, Berg and Webern.
