CLUE 1: Bo'ness, Caithness and Stromness are named from an Old Norse word nes which means 'nose', and is used to mean 'headland' or 'promontory' in place-names. Today's place-name uses a Gaelic word for 'nose' in the same way.
CLUE 2: The same Gaelic word appears in the name Cameron.
CLUE 3: The nearby loch also sounds like a boy's name.
CLUE 4: The town originally comprised three separate villages. One has given its name to the town; the other two were Hillhead and Clayhole.
