Steve Begg
Edi Stark talks to Edinburgh-born cinema visual effects supervisor Steve Begg, whose work includes Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, Aliens and Batman Begins.
A self-confessed dunce at school, Steve Begg grew up in a council estate in Muirhouse, in Edinburgh, dreaming of working on James Bond movies and Thunderbirds.
As a teenager, he worked closely with the Thunderbirds creator, Gerry Anderson and now he's one of the top blockbuster visual effects supervisors in the world. It's his expertise and trickery which have created some of the most dramatic action effects in Casino Royale, Skyfall and Spectre. As well as working on the Bond franchise, his many movies include Aliens, Batman Begins and Lara Croft. As he tells Edi Stark, the path to Pinewood studios all began in a shed and, thirty years later, he hasn't lost his boyhood enthusiasm for creating disaster and mayhem for the camera.
