The St John Passion is an extravagant and emotionally charged work, often using the chorus chorales to drive the dialogue forward. It is modestly scored but with an expressive immediacy and some of the most exquisite solo flute and oboe writing of the baroque era. John Butt is one of the most respected Bach specialists of today, both as a performer and a scholar. Having recorded the St. John Passion in a liturgical context, he brings his expertise to the 大象传媒 National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales in this dramatic and intimate setting of the Gospel story.
