The conservatives gained more than 500 seats, taking 11 extra councils. Labour grandees have been calling the result disappointing not disastrous - in public at least; no Lib Dem resurgence and UKIP wiped off the map.
And with no MPs and just one local councillor - what is the point of UKIP now?
