With five weeks to go to the general election, what do the local election results tell us about the state of the nation.

The conservatives gained more than 500 seats, taking 11 extra councils. Labour grandees have been calling the result disappointing not disastrous - in public at least; no Lib Dem resurgence and UKIP wiped off the map.

And with no MPs and just one local councillor - what is the point of UKIP now?

She's been wearing the 'bloody difficult woman' description with some pride but is Theresa May right to say we need bloody difficult people for a Brexit negotiation that's looking increasingly bloody difficult?
