In the UK there may be as many as 300,000 children being brought up by a family member or friend. These 鈥榢inship carers鈥� take on the responsibilities of caring for a child without the same support networks and services as parents or foster families, often during a time of trauma or upheaval.

Many kinship carers give up work to care for their loved one. 7 in 10 feel stressed, depressed or isolated while facing emotional and behavioural difficulties. Mentor helps build positive support networks to empower these families, through after school clubs and carers鈥� groups giving information, advice and peer support.

One of the hardest things a child can face is the breakdown of their family due to death, alcohol or drug misuse, mental ill health or other difficulties. With your help, we can give the specialist support to children in kinship care who have suffered loss and trauma.
