The Great Escape with Kate Tempest and Steve Mason

Steve Lamacq is joined by Brighton Festival guest director Kate Tempest for a spoken word performance and new resident Steve Mason, who sets the scene for The Great Escape 2017.

Steve welcomes Brighton Festival Guest Director, Kate Tempest, for a spoken word performance, and we hear from several musicians who've moved there including, Steve Mason.

At 31, Kate Tempest is the youngest ever Guest Director of The Brighton Festival, which runs alongside The Great Escape, and features an array of performances and events across the spectrum of the arts. After opening the festival with a concert at The Dome, Kate joins Steve with talk of the city and its draws. She also delivers a special spoken word session to mark the occasion.

Steve Mason joins to shed some light on Brighton's reputation as a magnet for musicians. His most recent album, Meet the Humans, was inspired by his move to the seaside town after the relative isolation of his previous home near Fife. Other Brighton-based voices including Justin from Elastica, Dan from the Wytches and Pete from Saint Etienne.
