The DUP is in the eye of the storm again over a donation of more than 拢400,000 to pay for newspaper advertisements in favour of Brexit.
The DUP is in the eye of the storm again over so-called "dark money" - and why it used a large donation, from a widely-unknown group called the Constitutional Research Council, to fund a pro-Brexit newspaper campaign in Britain, wher, unlike here, the identities of who makes large political donations must be published. The money went towards a double page pro-Brexit ad - in a newspaper not published in Northern Ireland. The move sparked questions because Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK where the donors of large sums to political parties can remain anonymous. Under pressure the DUP revealed in February that a largely unknown group called the Constitutional Research Council had given it 拢425,000. But the party leader Arlene Foster has insisted that they have done nothing wrong.
