Episode 8
Featuring Brighton duo Royal Blood, electro-pop trio The xx, bandleader Trombone Shorty, rock group Haim, reggae artist Chronixx and country music star Maren Morris.
Joining Jools on the final show of the 50th series are Brighton duo Royal Blood, who emerged in 2013 and went on to have huge success with their big rock sound that had everything turned up to 11, whilst just utilising their bass guitar and drum kit. They return with the same set up, but with a bit more swagger, to perform songs from their highly anticipated second album How Did We Get So Dark.
From south London, hugely influential electro-pop trio The xx return to the show for the first time in five years to perform tracks from their chart-topping I See You LP, which has seen them flourish into a more distinctive sound and a more positive, open and expansive concept than the previous two albums.
From New Orleans, bandleader and musician Trombone Shorty, who makes his Blue Note Records debut with his Parking Lot Symphony LP, which continues his style of hard-edged funk that employs brass-band beats, rock dynamics and improvisation in a jazz tradition alongside his virtuosity as a player.
From Los Angeles, sisters Este, Danielle and Alana, aka Haim, who are returning to the musical arena following their debut back in 2013. They play a couple of numbers from their upcoming second album Something To Tell You, including the recent Right Now, which sees them offering more of their 'folk-rock with a few R&B/hip-hop stylings' sound, which is so suited to a warm hazy summer.
And two artists are making their debuts. From Jamaica, one of reggae's newest stars, Chronixx, who will be playing a track or two from his upcoming debut full-length album Chronology, and from Nashville, country music star Maren Morris, who has already had huge success stateside with her Grammy-winning debut single My Church.
