Childcare Costs, Mortgage Payment Cuts & Roam Like Home
Weekly childcare costs are on the rise- what choice do parents have? Cuts to those struggling with their mortgage payments come into place this weekend and EU roaming laws change.
This week: the cost of a full time childcare place is 拢168 per week, a 2.4% rise since 2015. Weekly childcare costs are coming in at 43% of weekly earnings and for one third of parents, their childcare bill is their largest monthly outgoing. Aoife Hamilton of Employers for Childcare is in studio to discuss the childcare choices parents have to make along with raising awareness of of the Tax Free Childcare Scheme. Tax free childcare, childcare vouchers or tax credits are available and its important that parents make the right choice.
Cuts to the help provided for homeowners struggling with their mortgage payments come into place this weekend. Local charity Housing Rights is concerned this could put homes at risk, especially in Northern Ireland where many people are still in negative equity. Like Employers for Childcare, Housing Rights wants people who may be affected, to get in touch. Ursula Toner, Advice Manager with Housing Rights is live in studio.
And now your can 'roam like home': use your mobile phone anywhere in the Eu and pay the same price as you would at home. Is this too good to be true? It is essential to check what's in your package and what's not...to avoid coming home from holidays to unexpected charges on your bill!
