Springwatch Episode 12
In the last of the series, Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham report live from the Sherborne Park Estate. Martin Hughes-Games finishes his tour of the UK.
It's the last Springwatch in the series, and Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham report live on all the latest action from the National Trust's Sherborne Park Estate.
Just as things seemed to be calming down at the end of the run, the grey wagtails had an unexpected visitor to the nest - a jay came in and predated some of the chicks. But it was a total catastrophe... some survived the initial onslaught, but how many?
On a happier note the blackbirds have fledged the nest, and we get our final update on the festival of raptors at Sherborne. The single buzzard chick is going strong; the smallest kestrel and barn owl chicks are hanging on a fighting for every scrap of food, and the red kits are bigger and better then ever.
Martin Hughes-Games is finishing his tour of the UK from the beautiful Isles of Scilly, looking for a mysterious and strange-sounding bird, the Manx shearwater, and following the extraordinary conservation success story of the Scilly shrew. Gillian Burke is also on the Isles of Scilly, getting in the water with the inquisitive grey seals.
Iolo Williams reports on the extraordinary wildlife to be found behind the barred-wire of Porton Down, and cameraman John Aitchison has been to the Scottish island of Oronsay to look at the how the management of this gorgeous island allows some rare birds to thrive.
