Chris Patten is our guest this morning. At the weekend he called the DUP a toxic brand and said mistakes by two Conservative prime ministers have left the UK in a hell of a mess.

Chris Patten lent his name to the reforms that changed policing in Northern Ireland, and oversaw the transfer of Hong Kong's sovereignty from Britain to China. And he was chairman of the 大象传媒 Trust when the Jimmy Saville scandal engulfed the 大象传媒. Plenty of material for a memoir. And he's written one - entitled First Confession. Of which all of that is just a part. And Lord Patten joined Chris Buckler this morning.

Also on the programme, back to the Stormont talks. Yeah - they're still going on - but there's only around 30 hours left before we hit the deadline for a deal. Chris Buckler spoke to Newsletter political editor Sam McBride, Alliance Party leader Naomi Long, former Sinn Fein MLA Daithi McKay and SDLP's Colin McGrath.

And, are national paper DUP "crackpot" headlines a step too far? Columnist Brendan O'Neill has hit out at the attacks, he joined Chris Buckler along with the Daily Mirror's Kevin Maguire.
