The Iranian authorities have waged a 鈥渧icious鈥 crackdown on human rights defenders since Hassan Rouhani became president, demonising and imprisoning activists who dare to stand up for people鈥檚 rights, according to Amnesty International. Research commissioned by 大象传媒 Radio 4's You and Yours programme has revealed a huge shortfall in the number of beds needed to care for the elderly across the UK.听 It shows that by the end of next year up to 3000 elderly people won't be able to find a place in a care homes. Sam Kirby鈥檚 grandmother suffers from dementia and is in a care home that is about to close and Caroline Abrahams is the co-chair of the Care and Support Alliance and charity director at Age UK.

President Trump has said that he holds the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, personally responsible for the health and safety of two opposition leaders taken to a military prison near Caracas in the early hours of Tuesday. Last year Channel 4 started a reality television series that placed 23 people in a fenced off part of the Scottish highlands with the aim of establishing their own utopian community from scratch. A third of the way through filming they took the series off air, as events took a darker turn. Next week the audience will finally get to see how it turned out.
