Game changing arrangers

Frank Renton with music that changed the band world forever.

Some fifty years ago with the brass band's concert repertoire being the same old diet of classic arrangements and old-fashioned solos it needed to change. The advent of the entertainment competition particularly The Granada Band of the Year which began in 1971 provided the incentive. Suddenly bands had been thrust into the entertainment industry, and needed writers and arrangers who could deliver a new kind of music. Frank Renton highlights the talents that helped change the band world forever and, in the process, took it to this new audience who were demanding more than those traditional sounds.
