Prayer for the Day Script - Rev Dr Lesley Carroll

Good Morning
"The time has comethe walrus saidTo talk of many things:Of shoes – and ships –And sealing wax –And cabbages and kings –And why the sea is boiling hot -And whether pigs have wings."
On this day in 1865 Lewis Carroll decided that his wonderful Alice in Wonderland should be reprinted for the illustrator Sir John Tenniel was most unhappy with the picture quality of what had been produced a month earlier. The book’s been a joy to children ever since, a treasure for imaginations not constrained by the possible and a provoker of thought for adults in snippets like this conversation with the Cheshire Cat who asked Alice.
" … Where are you going?Which way should I go?. Alice repliedThat depends on where you are going.I don’t know. Then it doesn’t matter which way you go."
It’s not unlike a conversation Doubting Thomas had with Jesus when Jesus told his disciples not to be worried or upset. that he was going on ahead of them and he would prepare a place for them. Then Jesus told them they knew the way to where he was going. Thomas found faith difficult and complained that he didn’t know where Jesus was going never mind how to get there. There are times when it is hard to trust the God who goes ahead of us, prepares a place for us and has a road for us to travel.
So on this day when we remember Lewis Carroll’s most engaging of books, Alice in Wonderland, we pray for those who have lost their way and don’t know where they are going. May they find the faith to trust God leads them and is preparing a future for them. Amen.
