6 Music's Hip Hop Hooray: The Songs Behind the Samples
As part of 6 Music's Hip Hop Hooray, the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show digs into the original funk and soul songs sampled by hip-hop groups.
As part of 6 Music's Hip Hop Hooray the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show digs into the original funk and soul songs, sampled by Hip Hop groups. Hip Hop's connection with samples is legendary, with certain funk and soul songs being chopped up thousands of times. This week Craig takes us through the A-Z of funk and soul songs, that have been transformed into some of the biggest hip hop songs of all times. Expect 'Papa Was Too' by Joe Tex from 1966, sampled by the likes of Eric B & Rakim and Wu-Tang Clan. 'Hihache' by Lafayette Afro Rock Band from 1973 used by LL Cool J and Biz Markie.
