The secretary of state is to meet the political parties to discuss the prospects for restoring devolution.

The secretary of state James Brokenshire will meet Stormont's five main parties later to discuss the prospects for restoring devolution. Last week Sinn Fein rejected a DUP proposal that ministers should be appointed and a new Executive get working, in parallel with efforts to resolve differences over legislation, concerning the Irish language and other cultural matters.

The Korean peninsula nuclear crisis appears to be deepening this morning. The White House has warned North Korea that President Trump is ready to hit back with nuclear capabilities if Pyongyang threatens the US or its allies. It follows North Korean's latest test.
