City of Derry Airport can't get access to a 拢7 million funding package from Stormont because of the political deadlock.
It has emerged that City of Derry Airport can't get access to a multimillion-pound funding package promised by the Executive last year because of the deadlock at Stormont. Around this time last year the Executive announced a 拢7million package but that money has not yet been seen due to the collapse of the institutions. The then deputy first minister, the late Martin McGuinness, said at the time he was confident the deal would secure the airport's future after Ryanair axed flights to London Stansted and Portugal. At a council committee meeting yesterday, independent councillor Paul Gallagher called for a mechanism to be put in place so that the council can access the money.
