The police ombudsman clears the PSNI of allowing a break-in to Special Branch offices in Castlereagh to protect an informer.
The Police Ombudsman has rejected claims that the police allowed the IRA to break into the offices of Special Branch in Castlereagh 15 years ago to protect an informer. The claims were made by a former RUC officer, who said the police knew in advance about the IRA's plans, but turned a blind eye. Dr Michael Maguire said there was no evidence to support the claim. Alan McQuillan is a former Assistant Chief Constable and was in the police at the time of the break-in.
