Emma has help from an unexpected source, and there is bad news for Alistair.

Robert suggests Sleeping Beauty for the Christmas show. Lynda thinks it's worth considering. She reminds him to write his application letter to the Parish Council. She mentions some car vandalism and suggests it's something Robert could bring up once he's on.

Robert observes to Emma that they appear to be rivals. He's at pains to point out it was unintentional; he hopes she knows it's nothing personal. Emma assures him she's not bothered. Feeling disheartened, she's in no mood to chat to Jim. But Jim has useful information. He's keen to avoid the parish council giving Robert an easy co-option, so has some paperwork ready for Emma to get ten signatures in order to trigger an election. When Robert expresses doubt to Lynda over his decision to stand, she points out he's the perfect candidate; he should leave it up to the parish council to pick the best man for the job.

Busy Shula stands in to help Alistair with some vaccinations. Her head's full of the Hunt Ball. Alistair reassures her that he's getting a proper stand-in for Anisha: Graham Tate will start soon. Over dinner Shula tells Jim the prognosis isn't good for Anisha's mum. Meanwhile Alistair discovers the owner of the horse he couldn't save has made a formal complaint. It's the last thing he needs.
