Manchester Folk Festival
Jon Boden, Alistair Anderson & Northlands, Georgia Lewis and Jennifer Reid play live ahead of the inaugural Manchester Folk Festival.
In a special edition of the programme, a host of English folk acts play live, ahead of the inaugural Manchester Folk Festival.
Two acts are live in our Salford studio. Former Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden performs songs from his new solo album, Afterglow, backed by a string quartet. Northumbrian concertina legend Alistair Anderson performs North Eastern music with his new band, Northlands.
There are also live performances from upcoming singer Georgia Lewis and Manchester's 'broadside balladress' Jennifer Reid, recorded near the hub of the festival: the Manchester arts venue HOME.
Also this week, leading authority on English traditional music, Steve Roud, gives us a pocket-sized guide to English folk songs.
Manchester Folk Festival and its sister event, the English Folk Expo, are taking place from Thursday 19 October to Sunday 22 October 2017, with gigs happening in venues including HOME, Gorilla, O2 Ritz, and the Anthony Burgess Foundation.
