Nic arrives at Grange Farm needing urgent help from Clarrie. Hours before the first performance, Holly has attempted to eat one of the Nativity costumes. Clarrie makes a replacement, and the Nativity is a triumph. Alan's so impressed that he wishes Nic would take over the pantomime. Her experience persuading infants to do as they're told would stand her in good stead running rehearsals. Nic points out that giving up is never a solution.

At the Stables, Shula is surprised to see Lilian taking out one of the livery horses. Lilian proclaims bitterly that the wedding is off, so she's no longer entitled to ride Amir and Aziz. Shula upsets Lilian by asking if she really had no idea what Matt was up to. Christine being defrauded has affected the whole family, and Lilian has lost Justin - of course she would have stopped him had she known!

Shula is mortified, and when Lilian returns from her ride she apologises unreservedly. Lilian accepts an invitation for coffee. Lilian admits that she enjoyed the adrenaline rush of her clandestine meetings with Matt, although they were always chaste. But that was nothing compared to being loved by Justin, and now she's certain that he wants nothing more to do with her.
