Nation's Favourites: Joanna Lumley

Jo sits down with Joanna Lumley to talk through her life as an actress, activist and author. Jo will explore Joanna's world from Patsy to passionate human rights activist.

Tonight Jo is joined by Joanna Lumley. Joanna was born in Srinagar where her father served in the 6th Gurkha Rifles in the British Indian Army. Having been rejected by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts at 16 Joanna went on to pursue acting regardless, making her debut in 1969's 'Some Girls Do'.

Since then she has been 'Purdey' in 'The New Avengers' and probably most well-known for playing the lavish 'Patsy Stone' in 'Absolutely Fabulous' alongside Jennifer Saunders.

Aside from acting Joanna is a passionate human rights activist. She has worked with the Gurkha Justice Campaign and is a patron and supporter of numerous charities such as Mind and ActionAid.

In 2013 she was named as one of the 100 most powerful woman in the U.K. by Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

Joanna is also an author and has presented her own series of television documentaries. She was awarded an OBE in 1995.

This evening Joanna walks Jo through her career as well as playing some her favourite musical choices that have signposted it.
