Trying to clear his head Brian bumps into Will whilst on a walk. He tells Will that the Environment Agency inspectors are coming tomorrow and he's anticipating a grilling.

Neil's flu has got the family thinking about how much longer he can carry on with such a physically demanding job. With no pension, Susan is worried she'll end up as the breadwinner.

Emma's been fielding complaints from Ambridge residents over what she's going to do about the poisoning of the Am. She tells Ed that they're expecting her to take a stand - it feels like her first real test as parish councillor. She decides to tackle Brian head on but it doesn't go as she hoped.

Emma confronts Brian - what if the TCE gets into their drinking water? No comment. People can't afford bottled water, what will they do? But still Brian remains silent. At last it is Will who rushes to his defence. He defends his employer and tells Emma that she ought to arrange a proper meeting with Brian rather than an ambush. Emma leaves completely shocked, how dare he speak to her like that.

Later, Emma tells Ed what happened with Will and Ed is furious. Ed confronts Will reminding him that Emma has been elected to ask difficult questions, she's just doing her job as parish councillor and a great job at that, he couldn't be prouder of her.

Brian finally finds a sympathetic ear in David. He tells him it's costing thousands of pounds a week, the family is divided and he doesn't know what to do. David recounts how hard it was with the IBR outbreak, when you've messed up, no matter how badly others feel about you, it's nothing compared to how badly you feel about yourself.
