This programme looks at the complex relationship between agriculture and water. Farmers often play an integral part in the management of water as a natural resource, and from floods to droughts they are affected by it more than most businesses. Charlotte Smith chairs a panel discussion on the subject of water management, with guests Professor Jerry Knox from Cranfield University, and Herefordshire arable farmer Ally Hunter-Blair. They tackle the issue of how agriculture will cope with an increasingly "water-stressed" future, and ask whether farmers could do more to reduce their water consumption and prevent pollution. We also hear about a project in the Cotswolds which is researching ways in which farmers can help reduce flooding, and talk to a farmer in Cumbria who is concerned about plans to increase the fees charged by the Environment Agency for anyone wanting to carry out work on riverbanks.
