Dispute over leaked draft agreement text between DUP and Sinn Fein continues
Dispute over the leaked draft agreement text between the DUP and Sinn Fein continues - we hear from Irish language and gay rights groups who say it didn't go far enough for them.
"Our LGBT community MUST enjoy the same rights as those in the rest of Ireland". "...There can be no return to the status quo", the words of Sinn Fein leader in the North - Michelle O'Neill. But were they just about to renege on their promise - and sign up to the leaked draft deal document? Where was the Sinn Fein pledge on gay marriage provided for within that draft? The Secretary of State Karen Bradley says the government regards same sex marriage as a devolved matter which should be dealt with by the Stormont Assembly. Gavin Boyd from the Rainbow Project reacts.
Also on the programme, Irish language campaign group Pobal have taken aim at the leaked draft document and called its language section "extremely weak". Janet Muller told the Irish News the proposals would be incapable of protecting and promoting the Irish language in Northern Ireland. She spoke to Stephen this morning.
And, Ian Paisley's widow, Baroness Paisley, has accused political leaders here of "hiding from the truth". There have been no institutions in Northern Ireland for 13 months. Eileen Paisley says the collapse of Stormont would not have happened if her husband, the former first minister, and the late Martin McGuinness were in power. Newsletter political editor Sam McBride, commentator Malachi O'Doherty and Professor Jon Tonge react.
