Crucial Stylistics

The Don's selections cross time, space and genre. This week's Crucial Vinyl is the self-titled 1971 debut release by the Stylistics.

The Don's selections cross time, space and genre. Each week, as well as blending his favourite new music with classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica, Africa and way beyond, Don highlights a piece of Crucial Vinyl - a cherished album from his own collection. This week it's the self-titled 1971 debut release by the Stylistics.

Don says, "Straight out of Philadelphia and described as a 'sweet soul landmark', this debut album, notable for the falsetto vocal of Russell Tompkins Jr, produced no fewer than five top 10 US R&B chart singles - some of which would be covered by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Prince.".
