What was the 'Welly Boot Disco'?

Simon in Dungannon saw a Belfast Telegraph advert from 1970 for a Welly Boot Disco at the Deerpark Hotel and now wonders why it was called that.

Simon in Dungannon saw a Belfast Telegraph advert from 1970 for a Welly Boot Disco at the Deerpark Hotel and now wonders about the name. Malcolm in Antrim says it was because there was an agricultural college across the road. JP in Andytown says it started in the Wellington Park Hotel. There was once a 'catch the greasy pig' competition in Coalisland. Sean's not sure about the Drifters' singing 'Stranger On The Shore' but is playing it anyway. The show's been invited to Jersey but Janet isn't keen because it's not that far away. A request for someone in Kirkaldy in Scotland brings back back memories of Sean's girl in Buncrana who went home to Kirkaldy but left him the record 'Please Stay' by the Cryin' Shames to remember her by. Music from Neil Sedaka, Tammy Wynette, Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, The Champs, Peters and Lee, Si Cranstoun and more.
