The Belfast Marathon is marred by tragedy as a man collapses and dies while running the race for the first time.
The man in his fifties who collapsed and died during the Belfast marathon had been taking part in the event for the first time. He fell ill around five miles into the race at the Sydenham bypass in the east of the city. Some of the families of those killed in the Enniskillen Poppy Day bombing more than 30 years ago are calling on the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, Archbishop Eamon Martin, to intervene in the row over where to erect a memorial to the victims of the IRA attack. Last week, a proposal by families to put the memorial outside the Clinton Centre in Enniskillen was formally rejected by St Michael's Diocesan Trust.
