University fees, Motorway driving, Eco-gardening
Students are withholding part of their tuition fees after strikes by lecturers meant they lost out on teaching time. And learner drivers take to the motorway for the first time.
Strikes by university lecturers over planned changes to their pensions garnered national headlines at the start of the year. More than 3000 students who missed out on tuition time have committed to collective legal action in a bid to claim compensation. But others have taken matters into their own hands by withholding payment of their tuition fees. We'll hear the arguments.
It's been labelled the 'Attenborough Effect' - the increased awareness around plastic and recycling since the TV series Blue Planet II was screened earlier this year.
And now that's extended to gardening as the latest research shows 67% of people now consider themselves to be eco-conscious. Efforts to cut down on the amount of plastic used include a new plastic recycling scheme for plant pots and seed trays. However experts think the real solution is to stop using plastic in the first place and switching to biodegradable pots - but are consumers prepared to absorb the extra cost?
And changes to the law today mean driving instructors will be able to take learner drivers onto the motorway in England, Scotland and Wales for the first time. 80% of young driver deaths happen on rural roads rather than motorways but it's thought that's because new drivers avoid motorways due to a lack of driving experience.
