Laylat-al Qadr
Good morning.
Tonight may or may not be Laylat-al Qadr, the Night of Power, the Night of Destiny.
I say 鈥渕ay鈥 because this mystical night is not a science. It is a night, which the Qur鈥檃n describes as better than a thousand nights, and which Muslims the world over search for during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan. It is believed that all sins will be forgiven if you approach this sacred night in sincere faith and desiring God鈥檚 rewards. At least, this is the hope.
Such is the power and the draw of the night, that mosques the world over will be at bursting point, with worshippers beseeching their Lord for forgiveness; as well as people praying in their homes, equally devout.
Such intense belief and passion can seem almost out of place in the modern world, and yet is hope ever unbefitting?
For me, the search for the mystical and the majestic is a thing of great beauty, and a rare jewel in the relentless race of this material realm. To surrender your very being, and meditate your mind to stillness until it pulses with your own jugular vein, in the belief that The One is closer still. Coming, as it does, in the culmination of the month of Ramadan, the search for the Night of Power is like the crescendo of a great symphony. The body--exhausted and silenced by a month鈥檚 fasting, enables the strengthened soul to finally find space, and its yearning to be fulfilled.
Our Merciful Lord - Develop us so that we can contemplate Your Majesty, and grant that we may be amongst those who are truly conscious of you. Ameen.
